Diagnosis
There are two major standardised classification systems in use worldwide for the diagnosis of schizophrenia. Within Europe, including the UK, a diagnosis of schizophrenia can be established using the International Classification of Disease Version 10 (ICD-10) criteria. A second classification system that is widely available from the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fourth edition (DSM-IV), which is used in the United States and the rest of the world. It can be seen that both the classification systems are broadly comparable, whilst retaining some dissimilarities.
